Where in the world did the name come from?
The Biz part is easy. You've probably guessed it already.
It stands for business, as in e-business.
But what about the Wonk? ('wä[ng]k, 'wo[ng]k)
It's hard to find a concrete definition, but here are a few that come close:
- Somebody who studies very hard.
- One who is knowledgeable in a certain subject area, for example, a policy wonk or a computer wonk.
- An abbreviation of the term won der k ind, which means one who succeeds in a competitive or highly difficult field at an early age.
- From the word "Huang-do", or "yellow dog" in Chinese, which implies "One who works like a dog until dying with very little gain."
- The word "know" spelled backward. In other words, if you KNOW something backward and forward you are a WONK.
When you put the two together, you get BizWonk, which would therefore mean an expert in e-business. And since we specialize in international solutions, we're simply wonkier than the rest.
